Looking into the Past

Something I wrote on an old blog many years ago. Thought it was kind of interesting, so I figured I'd re-post it.

As I look at my life and the lives of those around me, I see such a wide array of people. There are those who can never seem to find what they are looking for; whether it be a job, a dream, or love. There are the people who are just living in the moment, who never seem to stop and ask themselves if they're happy. Then there are people who seem to have gotten everything they've been wishing for and couldn't ask for anything more. It seems these people are always finding their dream job or the love of their life. They are the kind of people who always seem happy. They're the ones who give the rest of us hope (or maybe make us even more resentful). But it's hard to believe that love and luck only reward the chosen few. Does the difference lie within those few rather than the invisible hand of some higher power? Looking around, I can't help but wonder...do we ever really get what we want? Or do we just learn to want what we get?
